Dr Hanna Hölling teaches in the Department of History of Art, University College London. Before joining UCL in 2016, she was Andrew W. Mellon Visiting Professor, Cultures of Conservation, at the Bard Graduate Center in New York (2013-15), Research Fellow at the University of Amsterdam (2009-13), and Head of Conservation at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany (2007-9). Her research has been supported by the Terra Foundation for American Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (2019), The Getty Foundation in Los Angeles (Getty Conservation Guest Scholarship 2016-17), Visiting Scholarship at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin (2015) and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research at the University of Amsterdam (NWO, 2009-13). Hölling is a frequent contributor to research seminars, conferences and symposia. Her writings appeared in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. Among her books are two sole-authored monographs, Paik’s Virtual Archive: On Time, Change and Materiality in Media Art (University of California Press, 2017) and Revisions-Zen for Film (Bard Graduate Center, 2015). The book Revisions accompanied an eponymous exhibition at the Bard Graduate Center Gallery in New York (17 September 2015–22 February 2016). Her latest book project, titled The Explicit Material: Inquiries on the Intersection of Curatorial and Conservation Cultures is an edited volume due from Brill in 2019 (co-edited with Francesca Bewer and Katharina Ammann; Art and Materiality series; Boston and Leiden: Brill).
