Leonardo Educators and Students Program

As part of its ongoing effort to promote the advancement of scholarship in the field of art/science/technology, Leonardo has developed a series of initiatives under the Leonardo Educators and Students Program. These include:

  • Leonardo Education and Art Forum (LEAF)
  • Leonardo Abstracts Service (LABS)
  • Special Student Discounts on new membership/subscriptions to Leonardo

Leonardo Education and Art Forum

The Leonardo Education and Art Forum (LEAF) is a Leonardo working group that promotes the advancement of artistic research and academic scholarship at the intersections of art, science and technology. Serving practitioners, scholars and students who are members of the Leonardo community, LEAF provides a forum for collaboration and exchange with other scholarly communities, including the College Art Association (CAA).

Leonardo Abstracts Service (LABS)

The Leonardo Abstracts Service (LABS), under the direction of Leonardo International Co-Editor Sheila Pinkel, is an evolving, comprehensive database of thesis abstracts (PhD, Masters, MFA) on topics at the intersections between art, science and technology. The aim of LABS is not to duplicate existing thesis databases but rather to give visibility to interdisciplinary work, which is often hard to retrieve from existing databases. This English-language database is hosted by Pomona College (Claremont, CA). In addition to being published in the database, a selection of abstracts chosen by a peer review panel for their special relevance will be published annually in Leonardo and on this website.

The deadline for receipt of abstracts for review by the LABS peer review panel is June 30 each year. Abstract rankings are announced in the autumn. Authors of abstracts most highly ranked by the panel will also be invited to submit an article for publication consideration in Leonardo.
