“FEMeeting Sister Labs: Women in Art, Science and Technology” in partnership with Leonardo Laser Talks is hosting a daylong symposium at the University at Buffalo that includes presentations by faculty, students, artists-in-residence at the Coalesce Center for Biological Art, members of the FEMeeting and community members. The symposium is part of a 3-day event that also includes an exhibition, BioArt workshop and performance at Buffalo’s Torn Space Theater.

The full event is a collaboration of the University at Buffalo’s Department of Art and Coalesce: Center for Biological Arts and the FEMeeting Network with support from the University’s Humanities Institute TechnoCulture Research Workshop.

FEMeeting Sister Labs: Women in Art, Science and Technology is part of a larger network of women and women-identifying folks working at the intersection of art, science and technology. FEMeeting is driven by the desire to develop and promote more direct collaborations. The goal is to disseminate projects being undertaken by women worldwide and, as a result, to contribute to the development of art-science research methodologies and to the growth of cooperation strategies that can increase knowledge sharing and bring communities closer.

In 2021, FEMeeting Sister Labs launched as an hybrid model of interaction between local and global, between digital and physical: where FEMeeting members address to the community of women in art, science and technology an invitation to their lab spaces. In addition to Buffalo, two other Sister Lab events have taken place -- through the ArtSci Salon in Toronto and the Sanctuary For Independent Media/Nature Lab in Troy, NY. These events are a lead up to the annual conference happening June 23-29, 2024 through Incubator Labs in Windsor, Ontario.
