Andrea Polli is an environmental artist working at the intersection of art, science and technology. Polli creates artworks designed to raise awareness of environmental issues. She currently holds the Mesa Del Sol Endowed Chair of Digital Media and directs the Social Media Workgroup, a lab at the University's Center for Advanced Research Computing.

Her interdisciplinary research has been presented in various mediums, including public artworks, media installations, community projects, performances, broadcasts, mobile and geolocative media, and so forth. Polli has worked, for instance, with atmospheric scientists to develop systems for understanding storm and climate through sound. She has worked with NASA's Goddard Institute Climate Research Group, and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Polli has created and presented public artworks at 25 locations including a wind-powered light work covering the Rachel Carson bridge in Pittsburgh, a permanent light work for the University of Utah and building-scale works presented in cities across the world.
Her artwork and research has received major support from The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), The National Science Foundation (NSF) and Fulbright, among others.

Suzanne Paulson

Professor at UCLA; Director of Center for Clean Air
Dept. of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences

Paulson's Website

Suzanne E. Paulson, professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences at UCLA, is an expert on smog, ozone and air pollution. Her work at the atmospheric chemistry laboratory at UCLA focuses on assessing the impacts of human activity on the lower atmosphere. She has spoken about particulates and air quality in the Los Angeles Area. Polli also headed a joint study by UCLA's Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability. At her UCLA lab, the experimental program focuses on mechanisms of organic-radical reactions. The field program at her lab is focused on detection of carbon-based compounds, making measurements both in heavily polluted urban air and in the cleaner 'remote' troposphere.
