Art Papers

Leonardo/ISAST and SIGGRAPH are pleased to present 11th edition of SIGGRAPH Art Papers showcasing research that explores innovative and provocative projects in a self-reflective manner: multiple views or entry points, multicultural translation, and multigenerational communication. Papers are sorted into four main categories: 1) Project description; 2) Theory/criticism of contemporary digital art; 3) Methods/techniques of creative practices; and 4) History/media archaeology of materials and roles of artists.

To foster dialogue and diversity of topics, Art Papers are presented in one of two types:

1) Long Papers: dedicated to describing concepts, processes, and applicability of advances in science, computer graphics, and interactive techniques. Long Papers are published as a special issue of Leonardo, the journal of the International Society for the Arts, Sciences, and Technology (MIT Press).

2) Short Papers: dedicated to discussing on-going works and visions. New to SIGGRAPH 2019 is the publication of Short Papers in the conference proceedings of SIGGRAPH, through the ACM Digital Library and ARTECA (the Leonardo Digital Library).

Both Long and Short Papers receive a rigorous and thoughtful review by at least three members of the International Jury, which is composed of renowned scholars, artists, and scientists. We follow the model established with the reputable Technical Papers program.

Art Gallery

The SIGGRAPH 2019 Art Gallery is pleased to announce the return to a juried exhibition, with this year’s theme being, “Proliferating Possibilities: Speculative Futures in Art and Design.” What solutions might we need to thrive in a future full of promise and unknowns?

The SIGGRAPH Art Gallery has always existed as an exhibition for artworks that fuse compelling artistic vision with technological innovation. The pieces featured in the Art Gallery demonstrate the progress we’re making, as well as the questions we’re facing as a global society. Artists have and continue to incorporate hybrid practices, digital fabrication technologies, science, architecture, design, and virtual and augmented platforms in their work as a means of exploration around crucial societal questions.
