Joanna Hoffmann

Joanna Hoffmann was born in 1968 in Poznan, Poland, lives in Poznan and Berlin. She received an MA in 1992 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, Phd in 2000, habilitation in 2005. She is an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, Poland, and an external examiner at the National Academy of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland. She has been a visiting artist at, among others, the National Academy of Arts in Oslo, Camberwell School of Art (London University) in London, Universidad de Castilla – La Mancha, Cuenca, Spain, Winchester School of Art, UK; Fellow at KW Academy for Film and Television in Potsdam Germany (2005/6). She works mainly in the field of video and multimedia installations. Hoffmann has presented her work in 25 solo and numerous group exhibitions and festivals among them at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw (several times); Dana Centre Science Museum in London (“Cybersonica 05”); National Centre for Contemporary Art in Moscow (“Temporary Cities” 2006); European Patent Office, Berlin („The Time of Stars. Innovations in the Universe” 2007); Media Art Biennale WRO 05 & 07, Wroclaw (Poland), VideoBrasil 07’ Sao Paolo; Khoj Kolkata, India. Her residencies include ArtOmi Ghent New York USA, Kulturkontakt Austria, Khoj Art & Science Residency in collaboration with the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in New Delhi, India She has been awarded by stipend by the Polish Minister of Culture (2004, 2008) and with 1st prize in Polish edition of “2007 – very spatial year” by Europlanet and the Space Research Centre of Polish Academy of Sciences.
