Paul Rosero Contreras is an Ecuadorian artist working on the interstice of scientific data, speculative realism and fictional narratives. His body of work explores topics related to geopolitics, environmental issues and the relationship between humans and the living surroundings. Rosero has received his Master’s in Cognitive Systems and Interactive Media from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain, as well as a MFA in Art and Technology at the California Institute of the Arts. His cross-disciplinary interests include photography, experimental sound, post-humanist philosophy and audiovisual performance. His work has been displayed at the 57th Venice Biennale, the 1st. Antarctic Biennale, the 5th Moscow Biennale for Young Art, Russia, the Musee Quai Branly, Paris-France, the Instituto Cervantes, Roma-Italy, the Museo de Historia, Zaragoza-Spain, the 11th. Cuenca Biennale, Ecuador, at Import Projects, Berlin-Germany, among other venues. In his recent publication in LEONARDO, he proposes a new topic entitled Volcanic aesthetics throughout a series of interventions along Los Andes mountain range. The project called The Andean Pavilion states a way of producing hybrid situations in which natural phenomena, humankind and emerging technologies merge together.
