Douglas (Doug) Peden is an artist/author/mathematician. His education included undergraduate studies in aeronautical engineering and graduate studies in nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan. He worked as a conceptual design engineer in a nuclear-reactor design laboratory solving problems in heat-transfer, fluid flow of coolant, and power calculations. After a brief period, he left to become an artist. He consequently received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado and taught art and art history at the University of Colorado and Nebraska Wesleyan before leaving the teaching profession to pursue art.
