Vanessa Chang

As a curator, writer, scholar, and educator, Vanessa Chang builds communities and conversations about art, technology, and human bodies. She is a lecturer in Visual & Critical Studies at California College of the Arts. She has also been lead curator with CODAME Art + Tech, and a curatorial resident 2019-2020 at SOMArts Cultural Center. She also serves on the board of the Immersive Arts Alliance. Dr. Chang holds a Ph.D. in Modern Thought and Literature from Stanford University, where she was a Geballe Fellow at the Stanford Humanities Center, and also ran the Graphic Narrative Project, a research workshop and event series dedicated to comics. She's curated Recoding CripTech at SOMArts Cultural Center, Intersections at the Leonardo Convening at Fort Mason Center for the Arts, and Artobots, a festival of art, automation, and artificial intelligence. Her writing has been published in Wired, Slate, Los Angeles Review of Books, Journal of Visual Culture, Popular Music, and Animation: an interdisciplinary journal, among other venues.
