Trained as biologist with a special emphasis on theoretical aspects of information processing in nervous systems (biological cybernetics), my research is concerned with a range of computational and experimental topics in the area of vision and behavioural control; my special interest in recent years has been focused on visual information processing in humans (psychophysics and eye movements), in particular motion perception and visual illusions, the relationship between visual arts and perception, the analysis of visual information in natural scenes and its role in understanding camouflage, and possible applications of neural information processing strategies in artificial systems.
