Interstellar Message Composition
Guest Editor: Douglas Vakoch, Interstellar Message Group Leader, SETI Institute, U.S.A.This project focuses on papers presented at a series of international workshops on interstellar message design. Papers focus on broad themes of the interface of art, science, and technology in interstellar message design, the use of art in the composition of interstellar messages and how to communicate concepts of altruism in interstellar messages. The workshops focus on messages that could be transmitted across interstellar space by radio or laser signals. These communication techniques reflect the methods used by current observational programs in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI).
Papers from the 2002 and 2003 workshops will be published in Leonardo print journal.
