Artist: Valentina Barucci

I create artwork as a sort of emotional compendium of my mathematical work. In mathematics, the emotions related to finding the solution to a problem or to stating and proving a theorem never find space in scientific publications.

Two of my works are aimed at leaving a trace of this kind of "mathematical emotion." This is why the collages include pieces of scientific papers and faxes exchanged with fellows.

In this framework the reference to Escher is unavoidable insofar as the Dutch artist expressed in such an admirable way the antinomy art-science, appearance-knowledge. I choose to work with acrylic paint because of its versatility: it can cover as completely as oil paint or have the transparency of watercolor.
