Agora Digitalis presents: Leonardo Publishing & Mentoring Workshop

by Danielle Siembieda, Erica Hruby, Sheila Pinkel

As part of the Ars Electronica Festival 2020, Agora Digitalis is the Interface Culture’s presentation stage at “THE WILD STATE,” the Art University Campus exhibition in Linz. Here IC students, invited guest students, artists and special guests present and discuss their (exhibited) work, research and works in progress. The complete program will also be streamed online.

In this workshop you will prototype your future in arts research and publication through mentorship:

  • What would a mentorship model look like for your future?
  • Learn opportunities for scholarly publishing now and later
  • Fast-track your scholarly publishing with Leonardo Abstract Services (LABS)
  • Pro tips on preparing your first submission to LABS and Leonardo journal

Detailed description
This workshop will design the future of a collaborative mentorship program with Ars Electronica’s Campus program, Leonardo//The International Society for the Arts,  Sciences and Technology and the Interface Culture Department of the University of Art and Design Linz (Kunstuniversität Linz). The workshop will be divided into two blocks:

  1. You are the future of art research and publishing. How will you design it? What can you learn from those who have pioneered the pathways of emerging media and research? How will you leave your legacy? In a borderless world there are no corners of a page, no language barriers, no immigration checkpoints and no single realities. With this in mind how can you embrace knowledge of the early generations of new media artists, theorists and visionaries? How would they also benefit from YOUR mentorship?
  2. What is the pipeline for your career in arts research and digital publishing? We start with the current opportunities through Leonardo Abstracts Service (LABS) and imagine the interface of the future. Ask yourself what it could mean for sharing your art, science, technology research with the world. How can you integrate multi-realities and a rapidly evolving content platform to create value, understanding and critical response?
