DASER: D.C. LASER

Registration is closed for this event
LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) is Leonardo/ISAST's international program of evening gatherings that brings artists and scientists together for informal presentations and conversations.

CHAIRS: J.D. Talasek and Alana Quinn

Join us for our first D.C. Art Science Evening Rendezvous (DASER) Experiment online 12 PM-1 PM EST. and 9 AM - 10 AM PST. Launched in 2011, DASER is a discussion forum providing a snapshot of multidisciplinary projects and fostering networking across disciplines. We have moved DASER online for now where we will experiment with different formats and continue to meet on the third Thursday of the month. In June, Oceanographer Jody Deming and Artist Adrien Segal engage in a conversation on Zoom with time for Q&A and interaction with the audience.

Jody Deming is the Karl M. Banse Professor, School of Oceanography, University of Washington, Seattle; a National Academy of Sciences member; and a National Academies Keck Futures Initiative (NAKFI) Alumni. She is a co-leader of the Ocean Memory Project, a NAKFI-funded collaborative network of researchers from across the sciences, arts, and humanities dedicated to exploring the intersection of ocean and memory, and advancing Ocean Memory as a new field of scholarship and creative expression.

Adrien Segal is an artist and data sculptor based in Oakland, California. She works across disciplines and media, including cast glass and bronze, wood, marble, metal, clay, drawing and digital prints. She is an adjunct professor of Furniture Design at the California College of the Arts, San Francisco. Segal’s Force Majeure: Wildfire and Wheat exhibition is currently installed at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. (temporarily closed due to the pandemic).
