Louise Poissant, Ph.D. in philosophy, Professor at the School of visual and media arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), is the Director
of the Group of research in media arts (GRAM) since 1989 and Director of the Centre interuniversitaire des arts médiatiques, the CIAM. The Centre includes researchers from Concordia University, University of Montreal, McGill University and the UQAM.
Poissant has authored many books and papers in the field of the media arts published
in various journals in Canada, in France and in the United States. Among
others achievements, she directed the writing and the translation of a
dictionary on media arts published in French at PUQ and by sections in
Leonardo. The electronic version of this dictionary, available since 1997,
became an encyclopaedia that includes works from artists around the world.
She had also co-authored a series of 13 video documentary on media arts in
collaboration with TV Ontario and TÉLUQ and she collaborated to a several
artists portraits on vidéo with the Museum of contemporary art of Montreal.
Her current research themes are the new technologies applied to the field of
arts of performance and the biotechnologies and arts.
