| Sonya Rapoport
Sonya Rapoport, previous
to being a new-media artist, had an extensive art career as a painter.
She started producing computer assisted art works in the mid-70's when
she became involved in art/science collaborations at the Lawrence Berkeley
Laboratory and the Anthropology Department, University of California
at Berkeley. Rapoport's botanical research on the pandanus tree at the
University of California at Berkeley; the olive tree at the University
of Cordoba, Spain; and Kabbalah's Tree of Life have been sources for
inter-disciplinary web art projects. Her interactive installations have
been presented at Sao Paulo, Brazil; Ars Electronica, Austria; DOCUMENTA,
Kassel, Germany, the Kuopio Museum, Finland, the Museo Nacional Centro
de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid and the Whitney Biennial 2006. ISEA, DIGITAL
SALON, and Siggraph have hosted her electronic artwork over the past
13 years. Traveling exhibitions sponsored by the United States Information
Service and the National Endowment for the Arts have included her electronically
formatted book works. Rapoport has extensively published writings that
include art and book reviews and critiques. She has recently published
chapters in the books entitled Religious Movements in the Contemporary
World (Attar publishing, São Paulo, Brazil) and Jews&Shoes
(Berg Publishers, Oxford International Publishers Limited).
