Simone Osthoff, Associate
Professor of Critical Studies in the School of Visual Arts at Pennsylvania
State University, is a Brazilian-born artist and writer who centers
her research on the institutionalization of experimental practices and
on contested histories of contemporary art. Beginning in 1996 her essays
on Brazilian media arts have contributed regularly to many books and
journals. Among recent publications are chapters in Ecosee: Image, Rhetoric,
and Nature, ed. Sid Dobrin and Sean Morey (State University of New York
Press, forthcoming 2007); in At a Distance: Precursors to Art and Activism
on the Internet, ed. A. Chandler and N. Neumark (MIT Press, 2005); and
in Art Journal (College Art Association, Winter 2006). Osthoff is a
Fulbright Fellow and currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Media and Communications
Program of the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland.
