Affiliate Leadership Council (in formation) is the core of Leonardo’s strategy, which seeks to more actively engage with, and foster communication and collaboration among leaders and organizations at the forefront of Leonardo’s global network.
The ALC is an interactive forum for Leonardo management and Affiliate leaders to propose new concepts and make recommendations to enhance Leonardo’s support of and services to the Affiliate community and the field of ArtScience.
Meeting structure and frequency
The ALC leaders meet three times per year:
- Annually, in person, over two days at a time and location determined in consultation the Council
- Twice online (every four-months) to sustain momentum and provide opportunities for Affiliates and Leonardo management to update one another on the status of current and new developments.
Council Leadership: Rotating chairs to be elected by peers (specifics determined in consultation with ALC members) coordinated by Leonardo executive director. Selected Leonardo governing board members and senior staff will also contribute to planning and will participate as may be appropriate.
An initial ALC meeting will be held online in order to facilitate participation by all Affiliates. First annual ALC meeting date and location will be set during the online meeting.

Videos may include interviews, lectures, lecture/demos, creative works, exhibitions, and projects, and other content focused on ArtScience, including high quality videos of presentations at meetings and conferences. Information about this series and details about submitting proposals for podcasts and videos, production requirements, media releases, and more will become available in late spring or early summer 2012.

Leonardo is creating a space in our Affiliate area (viewable by all visitors to Leonardo’s main website to recognize and feature information about Affiliate’s, their programs and faculty, research/creative and event activities, awards and recognition, and, for Affiliates that elect to provide it, a brief (less than three-minute video) introducing the institution. Affiliates will have password access to install and maintain their profiles. Anticipated availability of this feature is summer 2012.

New, Annual Leonardo "Vista" Report (name is placeholder) featuring trends and a multiyear outlook for ArtScience, will be shaped by contributions made by and input received from Affiliate’s faculty and others throughout the Leonardo community (and beyond). Affiliate faculty will be invited to contribute to the planning and definition of the report’s content, and will have opportunities to contribute articles to what we believe will quickly become an authoritative publication.
Affiliate News, project/research/creative updates will be featured on the main Leonardo website as well as in Affiliate profiles. Leonardo already features news in our existing e-newsletter, but we are committed to expanding the visibility of our Affiliates by placing a greater emphasis on promoting accomplishments and awards received by Affiliates, their faculty and students, and to providing increased coverage of Affiliate ArtScience programs, performances, and exhibitions. We invite Affiliates to submit information to Kathleen Quillian, Leonardo Coordinator of Membership and Communications (kq@leonardo.info)

Affiliates are invited to play key roles in planning Leonardo’s first Biennial Conference, projected to take place in 2014. This major new Leonardo international conference will feature leading ArtScience experts, experimental research projects and prototypes, exhibitions, performances, and numerous presentations, lectures and advanced media environments. Planning will begin with a survey of Affiliates and the greater ArtScience community. Feedback received from the survey will provide valuable, baseline information on what our field thinks a Leonardo Biennial should include. Survey results will be distributed to Affiliates for further discussion and the beginning of formal planning as a component of the first Affiliate annual meeting (anticipated, fall 2012).

Leonardo is developing initial strategies for new programs and activities, some which will be developed in collaboration (including fundraising) with one or more Affiliates. As Leonardo Affiliates, our institutional partners are encouraged to explore and develop proposals for new programs that advance ArtScience with Leonardo’s leadership. We will announce new areas of interest and opportunity to our Affiliates periodically along with information about how Affiliates can express interest and get involved.
