Leonardo Call for Papers

Artist-Run Businesses

With the rapid development of technologies and new media of communication and presentation, artists are finding themselves at the center of new businesses and professions. Artists are often the "early adopters" of new tools, stretching the use of technologies for new artist-driven applications. In some cases artists have developed new products that have been successfully commercialized. Many of these businesses fall within the category of micro-enterprises; others have become successful small and large start-up businesses. Leonardo is seeking articles by artists documenting their experiences and lessons learned in setting up artist-run businesses. For further information about this call for papers, contact .

Articles may be in one of three formats:

  • Artist's Statement: 500 words with 1 image. Should reference additional information available on the Web or in the literature.
  • Note: up to 2,500 words and 6 images describing one or two artworks in detail.
  • Article: 5,000 words and 12 images describing a body of work by one artist or work by a number of different artists.

All accepted articles will be published on the Web and in the bi-monthly print journal Leonardo.

Guest editors: Don Foresta, Jean Gagnon and Roger Malina.
