San Francisco-based Leonardo/The International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology (Leonardo/ISAST) announces the appointment of Jeffrey N. Babcock as interim executive director of this internationally acclaimed organization that serves a creative network of distinguished scholars, artists and researchers working in the critical field of ArtScience.

A current member and former chairman of Leonardo/ISAST's governing board, Babcock has over 30 years of experience as a senior nonprofit arts and academic executive, consultant, event and media producer, and entrepreneur. He has served as chief executive and artistic director of both established and start-up cultural, arts and academic organizations.

In announcing Babcock's appointment, Leonardo/ISAST board chair and attorney Greg Harper said, "The Board welcomes Jeff Babcock as Leonardo/ISAST's new Executive Director. We look forward to working with Jeff to expand the influence of Leonardo beyond its well-known prominence in the academic community into the larger realms of business, education and social concerns." Babcock has been actively involved in creative technologies throughout his career, collaborating with arts technology engineers and artists to produce and present complex projects. He continues to be committed to advancing the field by promoting creative and engineering collaborations at the intersection of multiple disciplines.

Babcock's Leadership

Babcock's interim leadership role is focused on increasing the effectiveness and impact of Leonardo/ISAST while opening up new directions and partnerships in order to better serve the organization's diverse community. Babcock will work to strengthen, broaden and diversify the board of directors as the organization moves into promising new areas of focus.

Leonardo Publications

In collaboration with Leonardo's long-time executive editor Roger Malina, Babcock is intent on bringing the most compelling content to the Leonardo community, while exploring new possibilities in the digital realm. Malina said of Babcock's appointment, "The art-science-technology landscape has changed markedly since Leonardo's founding nearly 45 years ago, and it is with great excitement that we will be working with Jeff to ‘reboot' Leonardo for the next half century!"

Leonardo Affiliates

Several years ago Babcock initiated the successful Leonardo Affiliate Membership Program, a growing network of elite organizations seeking opportunities to connect more directly with their peers and with Leonardo/ISAST's leadership. Initially designed to serve ArtScience centers, institutes, research labs and academic departments, the program has been expanded to include corporate members with special interest in the ArtScience field.

This week Babcock is announcing the first of a series of new initiatives, services, and opportunities for participation available exclusively to ISAST's institutional Affiliates. Additional details will be communicated over the next several months as Leonardo/ISAST ramps up its Affiliate Members campaign.
