In my work I seek to bring photography out of its frame, freeing it to exist as an object in space. After working for many years as a photographer, I became more and more interested in the physicality and tangibility of materials, as well as in the subtlety with which materials can influence the introduction, or reexamination, of ideas. Often I will juxtapose lush and sensuous photographic images with other elements that hint at multiple layers of reality. I add light to photographs in the form of transparencies, sometimes embedding them in Plexiglas so that they are actually filled with light. This light is both an illuminating and kinetic force---relentlessly controlling or pacing the vision of viewers. The way the light spills and moves is an essential part of the work. The moving light creates a form of animation, as images or objects close to the light cast their moving shadows on the images in front.
