The third iteration of the Media Art History conference series, Re:live, is scheduled to take place 26-29 November 2009 in Melbourne, Australia. The event follows the success of the two previous Media Art History conferences, Re:fresh (Banff 2005) and Re:place (Berlin 2007). The conference series is an initiative of Leonardo/ISAST, and papers from the conference will be published in Leonardo Journal.

Leonardo Abstracts Service (LABS), consisting of the English language, Spanish language and Chinese language databases, is a comprehensive collection of Ph.D., Masters and MFA thesis abstracts on topics in the emerging intersection between art, science and technology. Individuals receiving advanced degrees in the arts (visual, sound, performance, text), computer sciences, the sciences and/or technology that in some way investigate philosophical, historical or critical applications of science or technology to the arts are invited to submit abstracts of their theses for consideration.

Artmedia X International Symposium

English LABS: The LABS project, under the direction of Leonardo
Editorial Board member Sheila Pinkel, publishes selected abstracts of
PhD and masters theses in the Art/Science/Technology field. Students
who have filed their PdD or Masters theses who wish to have their
thesis abstract considered can submit their abstracts to the database.
Spanish LABS: The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, through #Artnodes, in collaboration with Leonardo/ISAST, has created the LABS database for Spanish-language thesis abstracts. This project is an extension of the English-language thesis database. All those with completed theses in Spanish are invited to submit abstracts of their PhD theses or access LABS for publication consideration in the database.
Chinese LABS: The Chinese langague database, under the direction of Kenneth Fields, was introduced in July 2007. All those with completed theses in Chinese are invited to submit abstracts of their PhD theses or access LABS for publication consideration in the database.

Leonardo now available through EBSCO host databases to
Central America and Sub-Saharan Africa
The International Network for the Availability of Scientific
Publications (INASP) has completed the first phase of the Programme
for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI). Through this new
arrangement Leonardo will be available on line for those living in
Sub-Saharan Africa and Central America. Please bring this to the
attention of your African and Central American colleagues.

Les Basiques: "art et
multimédia"
Leonardo/Olats launches the
project Les Basiques with the publication on its website of the first
module on "art and multimedia" -- artworks on the Internet,
on CD-ROM or on DVD.
Les Basiques answers basic questions on given topics within the field
of art, science and technology, focusing on main issues and providing
a body of references (both online with hyperlinks and on paper with
bibliographies) to allow those interested to go deeper into each
subject.
The project is in French only.

Spacearts: The Space Art Database
Leonardo/OLATS and the Ours Foundation have joined forces to create a database documenting the works of artists who, since the mid-19th century, have taken outer space as a theme, subject, or object for their creations. When completed, this database will host over a thousand entries. Artists are invited to submit their work for inclusion in the database. Entry forms to submit your artworks are available online at http://www.spacearts.info.

ARTS LAB: Leonardo/ISAST Report Released for Community Discussion and Debate
Arts Lab, a study sponsored by Leonardo/ISAST and funded by a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, assessed the current international landscape, lessons learned from recent programs, and new opportunities that would allow art and technology development in a viable and sustainable way. Arts Lab proposes a unique hybrid art center and research lab designed to be "fast, competitive, market-savvy, and not-for-profit." A 40-page report written by veteran media artist and project director Michael Naimark, is now available at http://www.artslab.net.
